In what is a day usually headlined by Latin American players, there was one player who would make a disruption.

Lucius Fox signed with the San Fransisco Giants, in what would be the largest signing bonus ever from a non Latin American player.

9. 2019 U17 Boys CentoBasket Qualifies for U18 FIBA Americas

With teams headlined with Buddy Hield, Tum Tum Nairn, Sammy Hunter, Domnick Bridgewater, it was hard to imagine the Bahamas not qualifying past the CentroBasket stage.

With a team of blue collar players lead by Deyton Albury and Romad Dean, team Bahamas did what was though of the unthinkable.

They Defeated the tournament favorites in the 3rd place game to punch their ticket to the biggest basketball tournament of the Americas.

8. Bahamas Defeats Equador in 2017 Beach Soccer World Cup

The Bahamas won the rights to host the Beach Soccer World Cup in December of 2014. They gave Powerhouse Switzerland all they could handle in their opening match, but triumph was achieved when the Bahamas won their last match in group play.

They defeated their first ever CONMEBOL (South America) opponent, making history on home soil.

7. Deandre Ayton Becomes Number 1 Overall Pick 2018

40 years since Mychal Thompson was drafted 1st overall, in comes Deandre Ayton giving the Bahamas their second overall number 1 pick in the NBA draft.

The Bahamas is in exclusive territory with only 3 other countries (Australia, Nigeria, and USA) with multiple first overall picks.

6. Ariana Vanderpool-Wallace Swims in Olympic Finals

As a county known for track and field in the Olympics, our most decorated swimmer Ariana Vanderpool-Wallace broke barriers by becoming the first women to ever swim in an Olympic final for the Bahamas.

5. Nathan Bain Layup Upsets Number 1 Duke

Months after Hurricane Dorian devastated his home Island of Grand Bahamas, Natan Bain kept his faith and ended up hitting his biggest shot of his career.

Hitting a lay-up as the buzzer went off making it the biggest upset in college basketball in the last 15 years.

4. Buddy Hield Wins College Player of the Year 2016

In the year where Ben Simmons was all the talk, a kid from Freeport was able to dominate the headlines of American Sports Media, Have the biggest game of his college career against a blue blood Kansas Jayhawks, and proceeded to take OU final four since 2002.

3. Stevie Wins Gold at World Championships

In a year where Stevie dominated the track, it was not a surprise that he won gold in Doha, but his dominating statement win showed the world that he will be a treat for the coming years.

2. Shaunae Miller-Uibo The Dive

Shaunae had the daunting task of defeating the most dominate force on the track Alison Felix.

Miller-Uibo in what may felt was unfair (it wasn’t unfair when David Neville dove to take Bronze away from Chris Brown in the 2008 Olympics) but Bahamians celebrated as we secured a gold medal.

In what was the most anticipated relay race, The Bahamas quartet of Ramon Miller, Demetrius Pinder, Michael Mathieu, the veteran Chris “Da Fireman” Brown upset the USA in a thrilling 4x400m final.
