Coach Yo pays homage to The Bahamas in what she says, who she recruits, and now, what she wears on the sidelines.
Coach Yo and The Ole Miss coaching staff didn’t have a plan for their courtside apparel so they patronized the local straw market ahead of Monday night’s 63-50 win over the Dayton Flyers at the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship.
“I wanted to support our own so we went to the straw market and we bought them from there…local.
We thought that was important. The people at the straw market, they’re hustlers man, and we wanted to support them,” she said, “we’re gonna wear another one tomorrow.”
Ole Miss will face the Utah Utes on November 23 at 7 pm.
The remainder of the Pink Flamingo field includes the Kentucky Wildcats, Virginia Tech Hokies, Alabama Crimson Tide, Missouri Tigers, and Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
Five of the eight teams in the field were participants in last year’s NCAA Tournament.
“We are going to look at those two games as a tournament,” McPhee-McCuin said. “We would like to win that championship. Yes, this is a business trip, but it is a life experience, too. [It will] give our players an experience that maybe they won’t ever get again.”
