UNITED STATES – Jonquel Jones bounced back in a big way as the New York Liberty closed out their WNBA playoff series against the Minnesota Lynx with an 87-71 win in Game Two.
After a quiet Game One with just eight points and four rebounds, Jones responded with 21 points and 13 rebounds, helping New York complete the two-game sweep.
The double-double also moved Jones into fifth all-time in WNBA postseason double-doubles, adding another milestone to her already impressive playoff résumé.
The Liberty’s dominance over Minnesota has now become a season-long storyline, as New York finished the regular season 2-1 against the Lynx before sweeping them in the playoffs.
New York now advances to the semifinals, where the Liberty will face either the Atlanta Dream or Washington Mystics, with Atlanta leading that series one game to none.
After entering the postseason as the number eight seed, the Liberty are now two wins away from the WNBA Finals.
MLB
The MLB playoffs are underway, and two Bahamians saw their teams get off to winning starts.
Atlanta Braves first base coach Antoan Richardson and his team rallied past the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 in Game One of their National League Wild Card Series.
Atlanta trailed 3-2 in the eighth before Austin Riley connected for a three-run home run, giving the Braves the lead they would not give back.
Meanwhile, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and the New York Yankees also opened their postseason with a win, crushing the Boston Red Sox 9-0.
Chisholm was not in the starting lineup, as the Yankees went with a right-handed-heavy lineup against Boston left-hander Payton Tolle.
The Yankees now lead their best-of-three series one-nothing, while the Braves also hold a one-game lead, with both teams looking to close out their series Wednesday.
Game Three, if necessary, is set for Thursday.
