UNITED STATES – Sebastian Walcott and the Frisco RoughRiders begin their Texas League playoff run Thursday, with the Bahamian top prospect coming off a long-awaited return to shortstop.
Walcott played five innings at shortstop in Frisco’s regular-season finale Sunday, his first time playing the position in a game this season. He went one-for-three in the RoughRiders’ 10-8 win over Wichita.
The return marks an important step in Walcott’s recovery from right elbow surgery. He was shut down after experiencing elbow discomfort in the 2025 Arizona Fall League and underwent internal brace surgery in February, avoiding a full Tommy John procedure.
Walcott returned to game action in July, initially as a designated hitter, and has been working his way back to playing the field. His shortstop appearance Sunday was his first in-game throwing action since the elbow injury.
At the plate, Walcott has continued to produce. He hit six home runs in his last eight games of the regular season and finished with nine home runs with Frisco after returning from injury in July.
He also hit .322 with 20 RBI and a .984 OPS.
Frisco now turns its attention to the Texas League playoffs, opening a best-of-three series against Amarillo on Thursday.
For Walcott, the postseason begins with another milestone in his comeback, back at shortstop and back in the field.
Baseball
The New Providence Amateur Baseball League Championship Series was back and forth all week, so it was only fitting that the deciding game ended the same way.
The Rebels erased a four-run deficit and rallied past the defending champion Reapers 12-8 Sunday night at the Andre Rodgers National Baseball Stadium to win the best-of-five series three games to two.
It was also revenge for the Rebels, who lost to the Reapers in last year’s championship series.
The Reapers jumped out to a 6-2 lead, and for a while, it looked like the defending champs were about to do it again.
Then the Rebels put up five runs in the sixth to take a 7-6 lead, then added five more in the seventh to turn Game Five into a 12-8 comeback win.
Toby Simmons went two-for-four with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.
Amahj McPhee was named MVP after recording one hit, three RBI and four runs scored, while also starting the game on the mound.
His biggest moment came in the sixth, when a full-count single drove in two runs and put the Rebels ahead.
Soccer
A dispute has developed between the University of The Bahamas Mingoes and the Bahamas Football Association, after the BFA informed UB that its men’s soccer team will no longer be allowed to participate in the BFA Men’s League.
The BFA says UB’s participation was originally a courtesy to give the university regular competition while it prepared to enter the U.S. collegiate system.
The association also raised concerns about players returning to their clubs during the season and about UB matches conflicting with national team duty.
UB disputes that explanation.
The university says it has supported national team players and that its policies are designed to balance football commitments with students’ academic responsibilities, health, and insurance.
UB also points to its recent success, having won the Men’s League title and finished runners-up in the BFA Cup.
The university says its 15-year contribution to Bahamian football should not be dismissed and is asking the BFA to reconsider the decision and meet for further discussion.
At the heart of the dispute is whether UB can continue playing in a club-based league while also operating as a university programme with its own academic and national team obligations.
