It has been a long winding round toward his opportunity to make his break into NCAA Division I basketball, but that dream recently came to fruition for one Bahamian player.

Michael Carey Jr signed his national letter of intent last week to join the Wagner University Seahawks programme, for the Fall 2015 semester.

Carey, a 6’5” combo guard will transfer to Wagner following a two year tenure with popular JuCo to

NCAA DI) pipeline, San Jacinto Community College Ravens in Pasadena, Texas.

He averaged 10.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game last season in his sophomore campaign.

Carey shot 54 percent from the field, 33 percent from beyond the arch and 66 percent from the free throw line.

He recorded three double doubles on the season and was one of the top rebounding guards in the South Conference.

Some of his highlighted performances include 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 129-108 win over Bossier Parish Community College, 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 96-88 win over Jacksonville and a season high 23 points in a 129-72 win over Lone Star College – Kingwood.

He helped the Ravens to 28-6 record in the 2014-15 season, one where they finished first place in the South Conference, won the South Zone Championship for the third consecutive year, and finishing the season ranked 12 in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Carey is apart of an incoming class that looks to provide experience to a Wagner team after they finished 10-20 last season.

Head Coash Bashir Mason scouted Carey at the JUCO nationals this spring.

Carey was highly recruited out of high school, who originally committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

At the peak of his high school recruitment, ESPN.com had Carey ranked 88 out of a possible 100 points, 52nd among shooting guards and his list of schools included Oregon, Arkansas, Baylor, and Houston.

When he failed to qualify academically, the Houston, Texas product out of Lamar Consolidated HS, opted to go the JUCO route.

A former student at Jordan Prince William, Bail left the Bahamas and attended a number of schools in the Houston area, ultimately landing at Lamar Consolidated in Rosenburg, Texas.

On the AAU circuit, he played for the Franchize All-Stars and at the national team level, was a member of the Bahamas’ FIBA Americas U-16 Championship team when he averaged 21.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

In an interview with silive.com, Carey outlined his decision to choose the Seahawks program

“I loved the coaching and the college setting,” Carey said, “I really believe they want to get back to where the program was a couple of years ago, and I think I can help them do that right away.”

In the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, the Seahawks finished 19-12 second place in the Northeast Conference each year.

In 2014-15, their regular rotation included  five freshmen and two first-year eligible transfers.

Before signing with Seahawks, Carey drew interest this spring from Nevada, Abilene Christian and Colorado State
