When VJ and Edgecombe and Buddy Hield shared the court last night, it was two of the best players The Bahamas has ever seen in a head to head matchup.
VJ Edgecombe subbed back into the game with 1:12 left in the fourth quarter and made nearly every key play down the stretch, none bigger than his rebound and putback with 0.9 on the clock to give the Sixers a 99-98 win over the Warriors.
Edgecombe finished with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in one of his most complete performances of the season.
“I’m athletic. I just try to use my athleticism. You know, the shot goes up, people tend to relax. I’m a victim of it. So, I know the opportunity is going to present itself for me to grab the board. Like I said, I can jump, so I just try to jump up before them, to be honest.” said Edgecombe.
Hield finished with 14 points including a pair of threes, a season high eight rebounds, and two steals.
The sixers took a 24 point lead before hield sparked a warriors rally, active on both ends of the floor.
“I’m so happy for him (VJ), man. He’s doing great. Hell of a putback. I thought we had a chance with Melt on the back end, Great block. But I’m just happy for him. It was a success. And him to close that game out as a rookie shows his maturity.” said Hield.
In the fourth, they had a few moments against each other, hield got a rebound and putback over edgecombe then outraced him down the floor for a layup several plays later.
Edgecombe would get the final say, he stole the inbound pass with 8 seconds left to set the tone for the theatrics on the final possession.
