We’re still a few weeks away from competition at the 2025 FIBA Americup and Bahamas basketball prepares to take on one of its toughest fields ever in international competition.
Kai Jones has committed to join the Americup roster for team Bahamas when they take on the region, August 22nd to 31st in Managua, Nicaragua.
“I just want to come in and set up for AmeriCup and attack each day with a purpose and a plan to be the best,” said Jones.
Team Bahamas was drawn into group a alongside the United States, Brazil, and Uruguay.
They will open competition against the United States on August 23rd, and complete the second night of a back-to-back against Brazil on august 24th.
In game three they face Uruguay on August 26th.
“Each game in front of us is going to be a test, but I believe that we’re ready for it, and we’ve been built for this moment. We’ve had something going over the past few years, and this will be a big chance for us to execute and get something done for the country”
The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarter-finals.
Jones, currently a free agent, has previously suited up for the senior men’s national team at the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers, where he averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds per game, and most recently at this year’s Americup Qualifiers where he averaged 14 points and 8 rebounds per game.
“It means everything to me, I love putting it on (Team Bahamas Jersey), I love playing, so the fact that i’m healthy and i’m ready to go and i’m at my best means a lot, so im very happy and excited”
