The defending WNBA champs are missing something. It’s been a struggle over the last month or so, but help is on the way, the mvp is on the way back.
Jonquel Jones has officially returned to the practice court for the Liberty and appears poised to make her return to regular season action shortly after the WNBA All-Star Break.
The Liberty are targeting July 22nd against the Indiana Fever for her first game back.
After aggravating a right ankle injury on June 19th, Jones was sidelined for what was projected as a 4-6 week recovery period.
She recently participated in full 5-on-5 practice on July 15th at Barclays Center and declared herself “99.9999999999999999 percent” healthy.
Since Jones was sidelined, the Liberty have struggled.
In her 2025 season prior to the injury, Jones averaged 12.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 47.5% from the field, an impressive 43.8% from three, over 9 contests.
Of course her impact extends well beyond the stat sheet, and as the Liberty makes its push through the second half of the season, Jones’ return could be the key that reignites those championship hopes.
