Edgecombe Named Jerry West Award Finalist

Hours after he was recognized as one of the top shooting guards in NCAA basketball, VJ Edgecombe went out and proved why he’s a finalist for the Jerry West Award.

Edgecombe finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals for his Baylor Bears in their 61-58 win over the tcu horned frogs on the road in forth worth, texas.

He shot 7-14 from the field, 3-7 from three point range.

With Baylor’s ncaa tournament hopes on the line, the Bears improved to 18-12, 10-9 in the Big 12 and will host the Houston Cougars saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.

Edgecombe came into his freshman season as a projected nba lottery pick and the bears most highly touted recruit of this class.

Yesterday he was announced as one of five finalists for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s Jerry West shooting guard of the year award.

He ranks eighth in the Big 12, averaging 16.3 points per game in conference play and with 14.6 points per game, he is on pace for the fifth-best scoring average by a freshman in Baylor history.
