The 41st Hugh Campbell final added another chapter to the Nassau versus Freeport rivalry and ended the local high school basketball season in dynamic fashion.
The Tabernacle Baptist Academy Falcons overcame a 17 point defecit to defeat the defending champion CI Gibson Rattlers 89-87 in overtime last night in the tournament finale at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.
It was the ninth Hugh Campbell title in school history, and third under head coach Kevin Clarke.
Dylan Morris was named mvp with 22 points and nine rebounds, but it was the late game heroics of Claudius Burrows that led the charge down the stretch for the falcons.
Burrows scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half. Tabernacle trailed 80-79 with 1:57 left in overtime, when he made back-to-back threes to put the Falcons ahead for good.
Morris’ putback with under 10 seconds left to play was the game’s final score before the Rattlers missed a pair of go ahead three pointers.
Also in double figures for the falcons, Gianno Murray scored 16 and Anthony Missick scored 15.
Last year’s mvp Tashon Butler led the CI Gibson with 27 points while Condae Smith had 26 points and nine rebounds, and Darius Hanna scored 16.
