The NBA season is winding down and at least eight teams that have resigned themselves to not making the playoffs, a few teams who are keenly observing where their owed draft picks end up and a few playoff teams who are looking to the end of the draft to shore up their rotations.
This is the first of three mock drafts that 10th year seniors will produce; one before March Madness, One directly after the NBA lottery draw when draft picks become finalized and the final mock leading up the NBA draft on June 22nd 2017.
A few points to note
- This draft rankings are independent from team needs as the draft order changes daily and will be significantly different after the draft lottery
- Rankings will change due to NBA combine measurements. Players such as Malik Monk, Miles Bridges and Bam Adebayo stand most to gain/lose considerably based on their physical measurements
- Rankings will change due to players not declaring for the draft
- NCAA March Madness will inflate high usage players on good teams, particularly point guards, before NBA combine workouts gives a more detailed understanding of lesser known and international players
- Late first round picks are guided more towards team preference as any team as there is functionally little difference between picks 25-35. Teams are increasingly traded their end of first round picks for cash to reduce the amount of guaranteed contracts on their roster but that trend may change since the 2017/2018 NBA cap is not expected to rise as much as earlier anticipated
