Professional basketball player Kentwan Smith officially agreed to terms with BC Nokia in the Finnish league Korisliiga this week.
BC Nokia is a professional basketball club based in Nokia, Finland. The team finished with a 20-27 win/loss record last season, which was good enough for third place.
This summer Smith played at Fuerza Guinda de Nogales in the Mexican CIBACOPA, but left the team in May. In 12 games with the club, he averaged 9.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
Last season Smith played at BC Timisoara in Liga Nationala, the top league in Romania, where he averaged 14.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Smith was also a member of the team that represented The Bahamas at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships in Tortola, British Virgin Islands last year. The loaded squad finished second at the week-long tournament.
In six games in Tortola, Smith averaged 8.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest.
The 6-foot-8 forward graduated from Stetson University in 2015 and it will be his second season as a professional player.
His list of past achievements is quite long; among others he played in the final of the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament in 2014. He was also voted to the All-A-Sun Second Team in 2015. He saw his most successful season as a collegiate player in his final year at Stetson, where he averaged 13.77 points per game.
Prior to his time at Stetson, he played at Otero Junior College in LaJunta, Colorado. He played in 33 games with 21 starts as a sophomore and averaged 10.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He shot an efficient 51.8 percent from the floor and 34.3 percent from beyond the three-point line.
