For the second year in a row the Nike EYBL Select team topped the Bahamas select squad at the annual Nike EYBL Bahamas Camp exhibition game on Saturday afternoon at the Kendall G.L. Isaacs Gymnasium in New Providence.
Superior talent, coupled with a hot start and depth propelled the Nike team to an easy 113-88 win.
The No. 2 ranked prospect in the 2017 recruiting class Wendell Carter led Nike EYBL with 15 points and three rebounds.
“I really enjoyed the game,” he said. “The Bahamian national team played well and it was great to get out here with the guys and play.”
University of Oklahoma commit Trae Young and PJ Washington added 14 points each in the win.
“It was really fun going up against those guys. This game was much more competitive than when we played them last year,” said Young. “It was a really good game. We had a little back and forth going on for a bit, and that’s what it’s all about. I enjoyed myself here. The Bahamian people showed us nothing but love our entire time here.”
Nike’s stifling defense got them out to a 24-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. Although the Bahamas took an early 5-2 lead, they never posed any real challenge. The EYBL team started the second quarter on a 12-4 run and extended their lead to 59-30 at the half. The Bahamas showed signs of life in the third quarter, bringing the crowd to their feet with several highlight plays, including a pair of throw downs by Azaro Roker. However, they never got closer than 20 points.
Franco Miler led the way for Team Bahamas with 21 points on 7-15 shooting from the field. Adrian Thompson added 13 and Roker chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
The game was a huge improvement for team Bahamas who fell 125-65 in last year’s inaugural Nike EYBL exhibition game.
