Rookie Sei Kim Young Wins First LPGA Title

Seventy-two holes were not enough to decide a winner of the third edition of the LPGA tours Bahamas Pure Silk Classic, where a 3-way tie led to a sudden death playoff.

Each of the the three players played in the final three groups of the tournament.

Ariya Juntanugran, from the Netherlands, put pressure on the remainder field by birding hole 18 and going in to the clubhouse at 14 underpar.

South Korean, Sun Young Yoo, found problems on the last hole when she over shot the green and her ball landed next to the viewing gallery. She then on her third shot, chunked the ball and missed the green for the second consecutive shot. She proceeded to par the hole, ensuring there would be a replay of the 18th hole.

Fellow South Korean Sei Young Kim, a rookie playing on her second tour event, landed right outside the bunker and make an timely lob shot to get to within six feet of the hole, where she was able to sink the putt for a birdie, and add her name to the three women playoff.

From there, the rookie shined, as she was the only player from the sudden death group to hit the green.

Kim was able to  two-putt her way to her first tour win on the LPGA tour, and take home the Pure Silk Bahamas Classic Trophy.

Kim will look to defend her title next year, as Minister of Tourism, Obie Wilcombe stated after the tournament that the Bahamas Government and the LPGA has agreed to a 3-year extension of the tournament.
