GSSSA Basketball:DW Davis Royals win Jr Boys Rematch

In the rematch of last year’s GSSSA championship, and the latest chapter in the rivalry, DW exacted revenge for a disappointing end to the season.
The new-look Royals got the better of this matchup with a blowout win yesterday at the CI Gibson Gymnasium.
Versatile wing, Tyrell Butler scored a game high 19 points to lead the Royals, while Rashawn Cambridge added 11 and Darryo Saunders chipped in with six.
Sharpshooting guard Raymond McDonald Led the Sharks with 16 points and Deniro Whyms finished with six. The Sharks reached the scoreboard first on a corner three from McDonald. DW Davis switched to a Full court trap, and immediately forced four consecutive turnovers. They drew fouls, but shot just 3-8 from the line early in the first quarter. Butler took a steal all the way for a fast break layup and they led 9-7 after one.
In the second, the Sharks packed in two three zone trying to shutdown penetration, willing to let Pitbulls fire from long range.
Saunders made first jumper for the Royals in seven tries. McDonald would have the answer for Sharks whenever it seemed the Royals would pull away. His jumper made it 13-9. DW Davis went 6-0 run, all on layups created from turnovers 19-9. Fatrington’s tip in made it 22-9 just before the half.
In the third quarter the lead reached as much as 25-9 on a Noel layup. The Sharks went on 7-1 run to pull within 10, but Cambridge was a stabilizing force for DW Davis and scored 3-4 at the on the next two trips at the line
DW Davis took a 34-22 lead headed into the fourth quarter and saw their margin expand to as much as 27.
