Add To This Your Playlist – Dreezy

BY TIMMY

I said a few weeks ago that Chicago is a hotbed for talent, and this week’s artist is a testament to that statement. Dreezy is the latest lady to try her hand at balancing singing and rapping, and honestly, she’s the best at it.

You may not know her name, but everyone who has listened to the radio for the year has heard “Body” featuring fellow Chicagoan Jeremih. When Chief Keef was dropped from Interscope Records late in 2014, Dreezy (real name Seandrea Sledge) secretly replaced him on the roster. Since the signing, she has appeared on Common’s album Nobody’s Smiling and release two EPs that did not garner much attention. She finally found a hit with the aforementioned Body, and got her album green lighted.

She’s not a one dimensional artist, however. She grabbed Gucci Mane as soon as he got out of jail for the first track on her album. She joins the small list of artists that got a feature and/or guest appearance from Gucci post jail that includes Drake, Young Thug & Rick Ross. With that type of blessing, she must be legit. If the bars on this song have you feeling like she can do better, she proved doubters wrong with her 4th single, “Spazz”. Just like the track title suggests, she let loose for 3 minutes on a dope beat and a catchy hook. Unlike Young M.A., who’s raps about a strap (and she doesn’t mean a gun) make you cringe, Dreezy’s raps about leaving a dude with a cum stache is just okay.

Just to make sure you don’t pigeonhole her into a rapper like Dej Loaf or Young M.A., her third single features the former king of hooks and features, T-Pain. Unlike many female artists before her, Dreezy is able to not only balance the singing and rapping, but she is actually talented and skilled enough to do all two. Her album “No Hard Feelings” is definitely worth the listen.
