Add This To Your Playlist – Solange

BY TIMMAY

Neo-soul ain’t dead. Niggas was just scared. That’s why the more vocally talented Knowles sister is back with a vengeance with her new album, A Seat at the Table.

This album has been in the works since Lil’ Wayne was the best rapper alive (2008) and anticipation mounted the year Kendrick Lamar broke the internet (2013). Saint Records, Solange‘s record label, launched in 2013, and she released “Looking Good With Trouble” featuring the aforementioned Kendrick Lamar.

Ever since her big sister Beyonce’ dropped her self-titled album, artists have been more comfortable with dropping surprise albums. It makes the listen that much sweeter – no more push backs making you anxious about the music, and it’s a genuine surprise. The album features Lil’ Wayne, Sampha, The-Dream, BJ The Chicago Kid, Q-Tip & much more. The album’s lead single Cranes in the Sky, that I can not get out of my head, was written in 2008. You can listen to the immaculate tune above and the album’s next standout song, Don’t Touch My Hair featuring Sampha, can be heard below.

The replay value on this project is very high, and it makes you appreciate the years put into the project. The single and album just missed the 2017 GRAMMYs deadline but it should have no problem winning during 2018.
