A pair of Bahamians in the Minor League system have achieved recognition in their respective leagues for their stellar play thus far.
Todd Isaacs and Jasarado Chisholm were recently named All-Stars.
Isaacs was selected to the All-Star roster in the New York Penn League while Chisholm was named to the annual Pioneer League vs. Northwest League roster.
The 2016 NYPL All Star Game will be played on Tuesday, August 16 at Dutchess Stadium.
Isaacs, a member of the Cleveland Indians farm system, advanced to the Class A Short Season with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in the NYPL.
He appeared in 25 games thus far and in 76 at bats, he is hitting .382 with five home runs, 11 RBI and six stolen bases. Isaacs has an on base percentage of .415, slugging percentage of .632 and OPS of 1.046 with 48 total bases.
He has been on a particular team since the calendar flipped to August.
Just yesterday, Isaacs had his first multi-homer game of his career, including a three run walk off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning. He finished 2-5 with two runs scored and four RBI.
He had the game winning two run double at West Virginia on August 4, in the top of the ninth inning and also went 4-4 with a homerun at Hudson Valley on August 6.
Prior to this season, Isaacs spent last year in the Arizona Rookie League with the AZL Indians.
Through 34 games he hit .214, with six RBI, scored 12 runs with five stolen bases. He had an on base percentage of .225 and OPS of .507.
Isaacs, 20, was chosen by the Cleveland Indians in the 19th round as the 574th selection of the 2015 MLB Draft, following a critically acclaimed year with the Palm Beach State Community College Panthers.
In 2014, Isaacs was drafted by the Toronto Bluejays in round 22 at No.654 but opted to attend Palm Beach State rather than pursue the club’s farm system directly out of high school. In 57 games with the Panthers, Isaacs hit .330 with 40 runs scored, 30 RBI and 31 stolen bases.
Chisholm has excelled thus far in Rookie League play and has showed flashes of the potential the Arizona Diamondbacks looked forward too when they signed him as a free agent last summer.
He made his minor league debut in the Arizona Diamondbacks farm system with the Missoula Osprey of the Pioneer League.
In his latest outing, Chisholm went 3-4, scored once and drove in two RBI in his team’s 9-5 win over the Grand Junction Rockies.
He appeared in 40 games thus far and in 160 at bats, he is hitting .294 with five home runs, 25 RBI and seven stolen bases. He has an on base percentage of .343, slugging percentage of .444 and OPS of .787.
Chisholm played short stop and debuted 1-2 against the Billings Mustangs. He followed with a 1-4 outing in game two and has been a force at the plate ever since. He is currently hitting .325 In his last 10 games.
The Pioneer League operates in the Rocky Mountain region and in the past, it also operated in adjoining portions of Canada. It is classified as a rookie league, and is staffed with mostly first and second year players. The Pioneer League is a short-season league operating from June to early September.
Chisholm, a versatile infielder, was signed by the Diamondbacks organisation last July with a $200,000 signing bonus.
The 18-year-old came to Max D Academy following the conclusion of his career at Life Prep in Wichita, Kansas.
